Terms of use

What this is

salt.md is free software you download and run on your own machine. This website describes it, documents it and links to the releases. We do not host salt.md for you, we do not keep an account for you, and nothing here costs anything. There is no contract between us because there is nothing to buy, subscribe to or sign up for. Using this website means accepting the terms below for that use.

The software is not governed by these terms

The salt.md source code and the released binaries are licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0. That licence alone decides what you may do with the software, including using it commercially, changing it and passing it on. Where these terms and the licence disagree about the software, the licence wins. The full text is on the licence page and in the repository.

Running your own instance is yours to run

Once salt.md runs on your server it is your system. You choose who may reach it, what goes into it and how it is backed up. You are the controller of the data in it, and meeting the obligations that come with that, including under the GDPR, is your responsibility rather than ours. We have no access to your instance and cannot recover anything from it.

The live demo

The demo runs the real application inside your browser. It has no server behind it: what you type stays in the tab, is not transmitted anywhere, and is gone when you reload. Treat it as a toy and not as a place to keep anything. It may be changed or withdrawn at any time.

Availability

This website is offered as it is and as it happens to be available. We do not promise any uptime, and we may change, move or take down pages, downloads and documentation without notice. Links to releases point at a third-party platform whose availability is not in our hands.

No warranty

The information on this website is put together carefully and derived from the source code, but it is provided without warranty of accuracy, completeness or fitness for any purpose. The software carries no warranty either: sections 15 and 16 of the AGPL-3.0 say so, and they apply.

Liability

We are liable without limitation for damages caused intentionally or through gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and where the German Product Liability Act applies. For slight negligence we are liable only where an essential contractual duty is breached, meaning a duty whose fulfilment makes proper use of this website possible in the first place and on whose observance you may routinely rely; in that case liability is limited to the damage typical for this kind of contract and foreseeable at the time. Any further liability is excluded. This does not shift the burden of proof to your disadvantage.

Links to other sites

This site links to resources operated by others, in particular the source repository, the container registry and the specification of the Model Context Protocol. Their content is their operator's responsibility. See the imprint for how we handle that.

Names and marks

salt.md is the name of this project. A fork is welcome under the terms of the licence, and it should carry its own name rather than this one, so nobody is misled about where a build came from. Notion, Trello, Obsidian, Docmost, Outline and AppFlowy are trademarks of their respective owners; they are named on this site only to describe what salt.md is an alternative to, and there is no affiliation with or endorsement by any of them.

Changes to these terms

We may revise this page when the site changes. The version published here is the one that applies, and the date below says when it was last touched. Since there is no account and no contract to continue, there is nothing to re-accept.

Applicable law

German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer with your habitual residence in another country, you keep the protection of any mandatory provisions of that country's law. If you are a merchant, a legal person under public law or a special fund under public law, the place of jurisdiction is our registered seat.
